About Richard Chu

Richard T. Chu is Professor of History at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. He is the author of Chinese and Chinese Mestizos of Manila: Family, Identity, and Culture 1860-1930s (Brill, 2010); Chinese Merchants of Binondo in the Nineteenth Century (University of Santo Tomas Press, 2010); editor of More Tsinoy Than We Admit: Chinese-Filipino Interactions Over the Centuries (Vibal Foundation, 2015), and co-editor of More Tomboy, More Bakla Than We Admit: Insights into Sexual and Gender Diversity in the Philippines (Vibal Foundation, 2021). He teaches courses on the U.S. empire, Chinese diaspora, Asian American history, and Philippine history.
